Nowadays, wastes and landfills are increased gradually and so it becomes necessary to raise awareness among the people across the globe about recycling and decreasing wastes. Freecycle.org is an online resource to recycle your old stuff and the Freecycle community is made up of many individual groups which are intensely working to change the world.

About FreeCycle:

The Freecycle Network is an international non-profitable organization founded by Deron Beal on 1st May, 2003. The main aim of the organization is to reduce, reuse and recycle the wastes. The organization is registered in the state of Arizona, USA. It organizes a worldwide network of “gifting” groups which are trying to revive our earth to its original state. The official tagline of the Freecycle Network is “Changing the world one gift at a time”.

The Freecycle network is aimed to divert reusable goods from landfills and efforts put by them had made far reaching effects in decreasing wastes and landfills. Currently, the Freecycle Network has 4,864 groups with 7,603,875 members across the world. All individual groups of the Freecycle are moderated by a local volunteer.


FreeCycle.org is a great website for people who are interested in recycling and keeping stuff out of land fills. This website is made by a team of recyclers and has the policy that everything must be free. The main mission of the website is to build a worldwide gifting movement that decreases waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on landfills while enabling members to benefit from the strength. It is very simple website and easy to use.

When you visit the website, you can see that the website features only text having the organizations logo which is text art. Search bar is the main feature of the freecycle.org. However, it does not perform standard searches but it searches a Free Cycle group nearer to your area. The website has main seven navigations on the top of the homepage named as Home, Browse Groups, FAQ, About Freecycle, Donate, Store, and Sponsors.At the bottom of the website, you can see the lists of the organizations top sponsors; King and Spalding, and Nokia.

The website offers free membership. To sign up at the website, first find your community by entering keywords in the search bar. Then by clicking on Go, you may go directly to your local group. Click on “Join” for immediately joining your local group. So, an automatic e-mail will be produced which will sign you up for the local group and send you a response with instructions on how it works. This website is great for the students, those on a tight budget, the frugal, and those with a little additional lying around the house.

Freecycle website also sells T-shirts, coffee mugs and totes which are useful to reduce wastes and landfills and also help to promote the organization. Take a look at ‘store’ navigation of the website if you want to purchase t-shirts, hand bags and other things that decrease wastes and landfills. Freecycle performs many wonderful functions and donations made by people help to meet these expenses and to continue to refine and spread their extraordinarily successful Freecycle infrastructure. If you want to donate for Freecycle, then go to donate ‘donate’ tool of the site and make donations with PayPal.
