Kids Wish Network (www.kidswishnetwork.org) is a non-profit organization committed to grant the wishes of children that faces life-threatening illnesses and disabilities nationwide. It has been granting wishes since 1997.
In 1997, Kids Wish Network was founded by Shelley and Mark Breiner after the loss of Shelley’s father due to cancer. It was inspired by many youth cancer patients whom Shelley met during her father’s chemotherapy treatments. Since founding, Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for thousands of children all over the country.
Kids Wish Network is known as a charitable organization nationally dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children. Kids Wish Network assists children and their families through a number of key programs, including Hero of the Month, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, Wish Granting, Funeral Assistance, etc.
Kids Wish Network has granted thousands of wishes and received 99% satisfaction on surveys from wish kid’s families. They always try hard to make each child’s wishes come true and their families are excited with the wish experiences that they have provided.
Kids Wish Network Programs:
Hero of the Month:
Hero of the Month program is honored by children between the ages of 3 and 18 who do not have a life threatening illness, but have faced and overcome some tragic circumstances with tremendous courage.
Throughout the country, hospitals and other child care facilities nominate one child to become their Hero of the Month. All of those nominees will be known as the facility’s Hero of the Month and will be presented with a certificate, T-shirt, a Guardian Angel coin and a gift card valued up to $500. In the recent time, Kids Wish Network has numerous facilities on a waiting list for the Hero of the Month program all across America. Holiday of Hope Gift Banks:
In order to bring a much-needed break from medical treatment to hospitalized children nationwide, Kids Wish Network developed Holiday of Hope gift giving programs throughout the year. At pediatric hospitals and other facilities for children who were frightened, lonely, and who did not always understand what was going on around them, the Kids Wish Network known as a unique need. For making their day’s brighter, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks program was created. It also offers them the opportunity for caregivers to distract patients from their often frightening situations. The Kids Wish Network sends millions of dollars worth of toys to hospitals and other child care facilities all over the country through Holiday of Hope Gift Bank program, to be distributed to the children and to be used in facility playrooms.
In Holiday of Hope Gift Bank program, hundreds of hospitals, shelters, and other facilities have been participated and even more are trying to participate.
Wish Granting:
This is another program of Kids Wish Network, granting wishes to kids who are between the ages of 3 and 18 and living with a life-threatening illness. The criteria are that the child should not have a wish with another wish-granting organization and that the child must be able to communicate his/her wish either verbally or non-verbally. The kids can request anything for their wish like trips to theme parks, meeting celebrities, travel, shopping sprees, computers or commodities, etc.
Funeral Assistance:
Kids Wish Network’s Funeral Assistance Program assists families of wish kids who have passed away by lifting economic burdens and ensuring a proper end-of-life ceremony. The wish kid’s family often experience extreme hardships because of the financial toll taken when dealing with a sick child, therefore the Funeral Assistance program has been created by Kids Wish Network. This program will make funds available to a family in the event their child passes. Kids Wish Network is committed to help their wish families honor child in a respectful and dignified manner by insuring a proper end of life ceremony, in very difficult times.
If a child’s first wish was granted by Kids Wish Network, then after 3 years, they will grant a smaller second wish and they have relapse or their health has deteriorated.
Kids Wish Network operates from one central office in Holiday, Florida. It utilizes a guardian angels fund to donations of $500.00 or more may be directed. This all donations are used for supporting wish kids.
